Ballet, Contemporary and Choreography - Intensive
Our Ballet, Contemporary and Choreography summer dance intensive is a great opportunity to get to know more about the Compagnie de danse contemporaine du Québec (CDCQ). This fun two-week intensive will be led by Jeremy Raia (CDCQ Artistic Director) and CDCQ guest teachers Daniela Jezerinac, Jeremy Coachman, and Jérémy Galdeano ….with MORE guest teachers still to be announced!
Daily Schedule:
10am-11:30am Ballet
11:45am-1:15pm Contemporary
1:15-1:45pm Lunch
1:45-3:30pm Choreography & Creation
Requirements
Any dancers 13 to 20 years old with three years of training in any dance style are welcome to participate in the intensive. (You do not need to be a current CDCQ company member to participate).
Registration
Registration is done via Amilia, under “spring and summer dance”. Information on the registration process as well as our cancellation policy is available on the Préville Fine Arts Centre website.
Summer Dance Intensive Teachers
Jeremy Raia began his training in Queens, NY. He graduated from The Juilliard School with a BFA in 1996 and also studied at Boston Ballet School and the Koniklijk Conservatory in the Netherlands. In 1996, he began his professional career with Ballet Arizona, dancing works by George Balanchine, Michael Uthoff and Daniel Ezralow.
After 2 seasons, he was invited to join Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal where he was a Premiere Dancer until retiring in 2018. A dancer of both classical and contemporary works by a multitude of choreographers, including George Balanchine, Jiri Kylian, Mats Ek, Nacho Duato, William Forsythe, Christian Spuck, Jean-Christope Maillot and Ohad Naharin. He has originated roles in World Premieres by Stijn Celis, Didy Veldman, Mauro Bigonzetti and Stephan Thoss.
In 2017, Jeremy danced as a Guest Artist with Aszure Barton and Artists. Jeremy taught Company class and was an assistant to Ballet Masters at Les Grands Ballets. As a guest teacher, Jeremy has been invited to 4 continents in such places as Centre National de la Danse (France), Arts Umbrella and Ballet BC (Canada), Saarländisches Staatstheater (Germany), Charlotte Ballet (USA) amongst other Companies and schools.
He has been Artist in Residence at Hamilton College (NY) and Ballet Metropolitano (Colombia) and restaged choreography of Didy Veldman and Christian Spuck on Companies in Europe and USA. From 2018 until 2020, Jeremy was the Ballet Master at Ballet Jazz Montreal and served as Interim Artistic Director for the 2020/21 season. Currently, Jeremy is on faculty at École Supérieure de Ballet du Québec, Les Studios Grands Ballets and Danse a la Carte and is Co-Director of Propulsion, Co-Founder/Director of Festival Charlevoix Danse and Sajedance.
Originally from Riviera Beach, Florida, and currently based in Montreal, Jeremy Coachman is a professional dance artist who graduated from The Juilliard School in New York in 2015 with a BFA in Dance.
Since then, he has worked with dance companies such as Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal and L.A Dance Project, and with choreographers such as Bobbi Jene Smith & Or Schraiber, Andonis Foniadakis, Anne Plamondon, Juliano Nunez, Ihsan Rustem, Benjamin Millipied, Dimitri Chamblas, Stephanie Martinez, Ryan Heffington, Teresa ‘Toogie’ Barcelo, Denna Thompson and JA Collective to name a few.
Jeremy has also had the pleasure of working with music artists such as Miguel, Half.Alive, Dua Lipa, Mergui, Kate Hudson, Coeur de Pirate and Maude Audet, as well as commercial industries including Delta Airlines and BDC Bank. Jeremy has had the privilege to travel and perform to over 11 countries and hundreds of cities around the world, and loves to broaden the scope of what is possible for him in the dance industry.
Yelda del Carmen is a professional dancer, teacher, and choreographer. She graduated in 2007 from the National School of Dance in Havana, Cuba, and was a principal dancer with Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, an iconic company in the Cuban contemporary dance scene.
During her career in Cuba, she joined several major companies and projects, developing a rich and versatile practice that spans contemporary, neoclassical, Afro-Cuban dance, and the world of Cuban cabaret.
Her choreographic journey has taken her to stages around the world, including Montreal, where she stood out as a finalist in Season 5 of the prestigious TV competition Révolution and as a grand finalist in Saison des étoiles, performing alongside her partner Yoherlandy.
Yelda currently collaborates with the Virginie Brunelle Contemporary Dance Company and participates in the new production of Évangéline, the Musical. In parallel, she maintains an active presence as a teacher of Latin and contemporary dance across several academies in the city.
